This blog entry is devoted to my wonderful dear friend Jenny, with whom I've been friends since the original days of "BFF" before it was short-hand for cell-phone texting. I'm so blessed to have our memories and her friendship to this day. When everything is all screwed up in category B (job, work, etc), it's friends like Jen that help me to be thankful for everything good in category A (family, friends & health). Love ya' Jen! Ran my 2nd 5K..improved my time.

I ran my 2nd 5K today ... not a huge deal, but for me, never a runner before this, it was. I thought I was only doing the first one to try it and to have a goal other than losing weight. Now that I found myself so looking forward to today, I may turn into a runner. There is such a great energy surrounding a race ... especially the "family -friendly, go-ahead-and-bring-your-ipod" type races where everyone is there more for the fun than to win the race. This one was a 5K and 5K-9, so there were doggies on the race as well. I managed to dodge all the packages left on the road by the 4-legged runners, which added a degree of difficulty I had not anticipated:) Now I am home with my 4 kids, and we are going to head out the back yard to play. Later I will have to do the bills, make sure they do their homework, and clean the house, but for now ... awesome day:) training for my 2nd 5K ...

I'm training for my second 5k, my first was on April 26 in an early spring snow storm. 26 degrees and 30 mph winds with freezing rain/driving snow. The weather made it memorable:) At first I decided to do it because I needed motivation to stay on track, and now I am finding that I actually like running (words I never would have imagined coming from my mouth). My next race in on June 1, and one of my very best friends is running it with me, so I'm really looking forward to it. That all being said, I'm finding it too easy to grab a snack I wouldn't normally eat with the thought process of "I'm going running later, so I can eat this." I was definitely over-confident buying chocolate-raisins for the kids ... I resisted the Twinkies and thought I could handle having the Raisinettes in the house. Silly. Silly, silly woman. I actually may have to throw them out, or have my husband hide them as ridiculous as that sounds. I need like a "chocolate-covered-raisins-anonymous" or something. "Hi ... my name is Amy, and I sneak chocolate-covered raisins.... Relaxation plus a smaller backside ...hmmmm

I've got to try something .... I've hit a plateau and need something new to shake things up a bit (more aptly put, to stop so much from shaking). I've decided I'm going to try pilates. I like Yoga, so it seems like a logical next step. Anyone else found a firmer backside from practicing pilates? Is it the path to a land with no muffin tops? We will find these answers and more on the next episode of .... The Insider (imagine cool background theatrical music playing now).

I ran my first 5K on April 26th, and did it in 28 minutes and 45 seconds. It was 37 degrees out with a 23 mph wind that made it feel like 26 degrees. The last half mile was head down trying to avoid frozen rain pellets in my face. It was awesome. My sister and her husband ran it with me, and even though we split up through the actual race, it was great having them there. Looking out the window now as I type this blog, the grass is green again, with not a trace of the blanket of snow that covered the ground this morning. The wind has died down ... it actually would be nice weather for a run. I think I will go to bed instead. There's a 10K in September ... Stomach flu anyone?

I would like to write another "dollar," but we all know that's not quite the case these days. Well, I may not have the disposable income to shop the way I want, but I can window shop online with the best of them. Maybe I'll go browse on Ebay. Today's Insider Tip: the Make A Difference page on the home page. It helps me to think of others when I'm feeling just a bit sorry for myself. Have a great one! It's the Weekend!

Not that weekends matter in this industry ... is it a day off? That's a weekend for us. While always working weekends can be a bummer once in awhile (you know, never having the same days off as the neighbors, missing time with other family members who have jobs outside of aviation), there are the distinct advantages also: 1) Post office is always open; 2) Malls and Supermarkets are less crowded, and thereby take less time; and 3) Last, but not least, you don't have to wait 20 minutes to get a treadmill at the gym. Today's Insider tip: Flight timeables link on the home page. Very helpful for a commuter. Have a great one. Welcome to OnlineFlightAttendant.com!

Hello and welcome aboard! I'm so excited about this site and it's potential to be fun, engaging and helpful at the same time. I want this to be a place to keep in touch, keep up-to-date, and most importantly, keep smiling in spite of it all. Today's insider tip: check out SparkPeople.com (Click on Health & Wellness, then Nutrition) it's free, it's amozing, and no, I don't get a kickback for writing that. Have a great one! |
